Tina Waldrom speaks with Kellie Wishart around the intersection of food relief and the gospel. Kellie is involved in the area of providing food relief through her local church, Manningham Christian Centre. Kellie’s journey begun with a small pantry, today that has grown to a much larger service, named CareNet. Bringing food relief to an entire community and seeing how the gospel is experienced is a fascinating story.
Kellie is adamant that food relief is not ‘bait’, it is not a way to gain access to having spiritual conversations with people. There must be a line of integrity, one that realises that all of humanity are made in the image of God and each person has inherent worth. They are loved by God, and deserve food security. Kellie’s role begun as a volunteer and has now developed into a paid position. That story alone is testament to God’s provision in so many ways.

A few years ago, he started what is known as Park Ridge Connect. It is an extraordinary ministry that interfaces the community. Jay and his team are reaching out to young people on the streets of Frankston in Victoria. There is a very clear pathway that this organisation has in place. Connections are made with those that are vulnerable in the community and a pathway to wholeness is mapped out. A pathway to discipleship is in place.
