Omar Garcia on Taking the Gospel to the Last Places First
In this episode, Tina Waldrom interviews Omar Garcia, a seasoned missions pastor from Kingsland Baptist Church who has dedicated decades to evangelism. They talk about Omar’s inspiring journey of faith and his deep calling to bring the gospel to some of the most unreached and remote parts of the world. Omar also shares about his next big step—an upcoming mission trip to Australia—where he plans to continue his passion for reaching people with the love of Jesus.
The conversation dives deeper into the heart of evangelism and how Omar’s real-life experiences show the power of faith and community support — from walking across Bangladesh to initiating projects like the 5511 Initiative. This episode also ties into the broader conversation from the "Jesus Film Part 2" series, highlighting how creative evangelism tools and personal sacrifice can help spread the message of Jesus to places where hope is desperately needed.

Discussion Questions
1. How can simple acts of obedience, like giving someone a Bible, open the door to life-changing encounters with Jesus?
Reflect on the impact of the young woman giving Omar a Bible in high school.
Read: Isaiah 55:11 – “So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
2. What does it mean to you personally to “take the Gospel to the last places first”? Are there “unreached” or overlooked places in your own community or circles?
Reflect on the metaphor Omar shared about people living farthest from the “bakery” not even receiving crumbs.
Read: Romans 15:20 – “It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation.”
3. When have you seen God use unexpected detours or difficulties to accomplish His purpose in your life or in sharing the Gospel?
Reflect on Omar’s story of how changing their walking route in Bangladesh led them to villages they hadn’t planned to visit.
Read: Proverbs 16:9 – “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
4. What is one step you can take this week to “mobilise” others, like Omar does, to reach the unreached—whether it’s across the world or across the street?
Reflect on how Omar mobilises thousands and started initiatives like the 5511 Project.
Read: Matthew 28:19-20 – “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
5. Where is your personal "line" of comfort when it comes to evangelism, and what might it look like for you to "go beyond" it?
Reflect on the areas of your life where sharing your faith feels comfortable and predictable. What might God be asking you to step into that feels unfamiliar or inconvenient?
Read: Acts 1:8 – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses... to the ends of the earth.”
6. Have you experienced or do you expect to encounter hostility or rejection when sharing the gospel? How does Jesus' teaching on finding "persons of peace" (Luke 10:5-6) apply to your situation?
Consider how you might discern and focus on those who are open to hearing the gospel in your circles of influence.
Read: Luke 10:5-6 – “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them...”
7. Are your conversations more about your church or about Jesus Himself?
Omar challenged believers to focus their conversations on Jesus rather than on church activities. How can you make Christ the centre of your conversations?
Read: 1 Corinthians 2:2 – “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”
