How Evangelism and Social Justice Work Together with Tina Waldrom
In this episode, Tina Waldrom takes a closer look at how evangelism and social justice go hand in hand. Drawing from conversations with past guests – Kim Hammond, Jon Owen and Rachel Dunwell – she unpacks what it means to live out our faith in a world full of inequality and hurt. The episode highlights how sharing the good news isn’t just about words—it’s about action too. Evangelism becomes more powerful when it’s rooted in biblical justice and expressed through acts of compassion, kindness, and standing up for what’s right.
Listeners are invited to consider how they can play a personal role in addressing injustice while pointing people to Jesus. From speaking up for the vulnerable to serving those in need, evangelism can flourish when believers commit to living out the gospel with both truth and love. Tina reminds us that justice isn’t a side issue—it’s part of the heart of God. As we pursue justice in our everyday lives, we create more meaningful opportunities to share our faith in a way that’s authentic, relational, and deeply impactful.
In this podcast episode, you will discover that:
- Biblical justice is not an add-on to the gospel; it is the gospel.
- Justice is about restoring what is broken with mercy.
- Evangelism should create safe spaces for people.
- Personal stories of trauma can lead to powerful advocacy.
- The heart of God is for the oppressed and marginalised..
- Justice and evangelism are not separate; they are intertwined.
- And more…

Discussion Questions
1. Where in your life might you be more influenced by cultural ideas of justice than by God's call to biblical justice? Reflect on areas where your beliefs or actions align more with societal trends than with God's justice rooted in righteousness and mercy. How can you realign your understanding and practice?
Read: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8
2. What justice issue is God stirring in your heart, and how might it relate to your personal story of redemption? Identify the “redemptive thread” in your life. How could God use your past pain or passion to bring hope or freedom to others?
Read: “The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” – Psalm 9:9
“...comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” – 2 Corinthians 1:4
3. What would it look like for you to “give good news” before speaking it? Consider how your everyday actions—radical hospitality, compassion, or practical help—can be a powerful form of evangelism.
Read: “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” – 1 John 3:18
“...we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.” – 1 Thessalonians 2:8
4. How can you intentionally create “safe and sacred spaces” in your life where others feel seen, valued, and loved?
Read: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:35
5. In what ways can you speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves?
Read: Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.” – Proverbs 31:8–9
“Defend the oppressed.” – Isaiah 1:17
6. How are you integrating compassion and justice into your sharing of the gospel?
Read: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me… to proclaim good news to the poor… to set the oppressed free…” – Luke 4:18
7. Who in your life is far from faith that you could love deeply this week—and what would loving them well look like?
Read: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” – Mark 12:31
